Monaco precancelled stamps

When a theme lasts thirteen years

Stamps sold with their cancellation

A precancel is a stamp printed with an overprint before being sold; it serves businesses that mail items in bulk. Those of Monaco carry a number preceded by the letter P and are sold in series of four values, only three for the 1969 one. The section runs from P19 in 1960 to P113 in 1992.

Trees, fruit and vegetables, from 1980 to 1992

From 1980 to 1992, the twelve successive series, from P66/P69 to P110/P113, all deal with trees. From 1982, they widen to fruit and vegetables. It is one of the most continuous thematic threads in the whole Monégasque catalogue, without a single break between the first and the last set.

Three series in 1978

Before 1980, the pace is irregular: one series in 1960, one in 1964, one in 1969, one in 1971, one in 1975. The year 1978 stands out clearly with three series (P50/P53, P54/P57 and P58/P61), 1976 has two, and the pace then settles at one a year.

The dearest, 1960 and 1975

Most series sit between one and three euros. Two stand out: the 1960 one, the oldest in the collection, at around ten euros, and the 1975 one, at around seven and a half euros. All are mint never hinged.

Where to find the rest

Ordinary Monaco postage stamps are found in the Poste section, and French precancels, on the same principle, in their own section.
