Qatar is an emirate of the Arabian Peninsula. It occupies a peninsula on the Persian Gulf. It has a land border with Saudi Arabia.
After 1950, British offices opened in the country and used common stamps in Muscat, Oman and Dubai.
From 1957, Qatar became an independent state protected by Britain. The first stamps were thus British stamps overloaded "QATAR".
From 1961, the country issued its own stamps. Qatar opted for independence in 1971 and continued broadcasting.
