Moldova is a landlocked European country by Ukraine to the north and east, and Romania to the south and west.

The Second World War allowed the USSR to annex Moldova as an independent Federal Republic of Ukraine. In 1990, Moldova claimed its sovereignty and proclaimed its independence in August 1991. Since then, Moldova has issued its own stamps....

The first series in 1991 celebrated the first anniversary of the sovereignty proclamation of the Moldovan state (unperforate stamps).
