Walt Disney stamps

Mickey only needs fifteen stamps to travel the world

One name, a section of its own

Only fifteen items make up this collection, spread across six countries - a far smaller volume than comics in general, which nonetheless takes in every other paper hero. Walt Disney gets his own entry here, just like Hergé, proof that a single name can justify a separate classification once it recurs often enough across enough different issuers.

2004, the year of Stamp Day

France alone accounts for ten of the fifteen items in the collection, six of them published in the same year, 2004. Several carry the double label "Walt Disney" and "Philately", including a booklet specific to Stamp Day: that year, the Disney universe had been chosen as the theme for the annual event devoted to postage stamps, which explains this unusual concentration on a single vintage.

Music and literature, two isolated occasions

A 1979 Dominica souvenir sheet pairs Walt Disney with music, while a 2010 Alderney series ties him to literature, likely for an adaptation of a classic tale. Both cases remain isolated within an otherwise fairly uniform collection, most issues carrying only the Walt Disney label.

From €1 for a common stamp to €37 for the oldest item

The oldest item in the collection, a 1993 French CNEP sheetlet, is also the priciest at €37. The more recent self-adhesive booklets, from 2018 and 2023, trade around €25, while the single 2004 French stamps remain affordable at €1 to €2. Series from Sierra Leone, the Maldives and the United States fall in between, around €3 to €4.
