Ryu-Kyu is an archipelago made up of 63 islands located between Japan and Formosa.

Until 1945, the stamps of Japan were used.

After this date, the archipelago was occupied by the Americans who set up a semi-autonomous government in 1952.

American stamps were first used and then Ryu-Kyu issued its own stamps from 1948 until 1972.
